Man from Joplin faces nine year prison sentence for trafficking heroin.

Trafficking occurred between Missouri and Louisiana.

A man from Joplin was sentenced to nine years in prison on Tuesday for his role in a conspiracy trafficking heroin between Joplin and Louisiana.

38-year-old Joplin resident John Borque had an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance that was dismissed in the U.S. District Court in Springfield.

According to court documents, the FBI suspected Borque of making runs between the states of Louisiana and Missouri; The FBI then obtained a search warrant to track Borque’s cell phone on November 11.

Two weeks after, FBI agents tracked the phone to Crowley, Louisiana.

Bourque was stopped in Newton County by the Missouri State Highway Patrol after the FBI contacted them about the situation. Borque admitted to making several trips between the states of Missouri and Louisiana to pick up and deliver heroin.
