Bill that allows scholarships for k-12 private schools passed in Missouri House.

The school measure passed Thursday.

(AP) – A Missouri bill to allow scholarships for K-12 private schooling has passed the state House. The school voucher-style measure barely passed Thursday. Lawmakers voted 82-71 in favor of the bill. That just met the 82-vote threshold for the bill to advance to the state Senate. The tight vote shows how divisive the legislation is, even in a supermajority Republican Legislature. Under the program, private donors would give money to nonprofits that in turn would dole out scholarships to low-income families. Donors would get state tax credits equal to the amount they donate.
