On Thursday morning, February 25, 2021, at approximately 10:25 AM, law enforcement officers with the Pittsburg Police Department responded to Bo’s One-Stop, located at 1116 W. 4th St., in reference to a report of shots being fired in a residence around that location.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, an 18-year-old female, who advised her estranged boyfriend, who was later identified as 20-year-old Michael D.J. Taylor, of Pittsburg, was at her home in Pittsburg.

The victim reported that Taylor was in an agitated condition and in possession of a handgun. The female victim advised there was a disturbance at her residence between her and Taylor, and that she was able to escape from the residence. As the female victim fled the residence, Taylor discharged the firearm. There were no reported injuries. The female victim escaped from her residence and went to Bo’s One-Stop for help.

Detectives and Officers responded to the victim’s residence, where Taylor had barricaded himself within. A Patrol Officer with the Pittsburg Police Department was able to start a successful dialogue with Taylor, who turned himself in shortly thereafter without further incident. A handgun was recovered during the investigation, which was later found to have been reported stolen out of Joplin.

Taylor was arrested for felony kidnapping, felony aggravated assault, felony possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor domestic battery, and misdemeanor unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Taylor was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking.
