Homicide investigation underway in Newton County
Identity being withheld pending notification of next of kin
Law offices in Newton County are treating the discovery of a body on Saturday as a homicide.
The investigation began after people passing by reported seeing what appeared to be a body in a ditch along State Line Road south of Angus Drive.
Newton County Sheriff Chris Jennings told NewsTalk KZRG deputies confirmed that what was seen was a body. They began processing the scene and gathering evidence Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
Sheriff Jennings says authorities have identified the body but public identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
He says the body will undergo an autopsy early this week.
