OKC police officer, suspect recovering from wounds after shootout
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – An Oklahoma City police officer and a suspect are both recovering from gunshot wounds after a shootout over the weekend.
Police said in a statement Monday that Officer Braden Downs was shot twice after responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday afternoon.
One of the rounds was stopped by a ballistic vest Downs was wearing. Police say Downs returned fire, striking 63-year-old Joel Lewis in the leg.
Lewis eventually surrendered to officers and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Downs was treated and released from an area hospital. He has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
