Because of their volunteer efforts with the community, Missouri Southern’s softball team has earned the Student Club Volunteer Service Award, according to MSSU.
Each student was asked by the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee to provide their total number of volunteer hours between November 11, 2019 to October 31, 2020, in addition to a description of their activities and impact.
The team completed 318 hours of community service during the time period, which averages about 17 hours per student-athlete.
The team volunteered in a variety of locations including Columbia Elementary, the Joplin Humane Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Eugene Field Elementary.
The announcement came during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration.
