Memorial Hall subject of City Council special session
The Joplin City Council met in special session Monday night.
The subject was Joplin’s Memorial Hall.
Consultant Brian Garvey of SFS Architecture in Kansas City said the 97-year-old hall is actually in better shape than many people might think. He called it a “very solid building.”
The building does need renovations of a sagging corner, the roof, and replacement of the front ramp, among other things.
Garvey said that could be paid for through taxes, donations and tax credits in an effort to get Memorial Hall ready for another 100 years of service to the Joplin community.
The structure was built in 1924 as a war memorial.
