Passenger from Carthage dies when driver hits pickup truck parked in road
A man from Carthage is dead after in which he was riding hit a car parked in the road on County Road 80 about 5 miles east of Carthage early Thursday evening.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 55-year-old Terry A. Abernathy of Carthage died after the driver, 78-year-old James E. Robinson of Carthage, smashed into an unoccupied 2007 Dodge Ram that was parked in the northbound lane of the roadway.
Abernathy was taken to Mercy Carthage where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Elizabeth Webb.shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday night.
Robinson was seriously injured and transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
There’s no word in the Highway Patrol Report on the owner of the Dodge Ram.
