Ottawa County Sheriff arrested on embezzlement, perjury

Ottawa County Sheriff Jeremy Floyd was arrested Friday morning after he was indicted for embezzlement and perjury charges by a grand jury on Thursday.

Floyd allegedly misused over $1,100 of the department’s money when he used that for an airplane ticket for his wife to fly to Nevada back in 2018.

The perjury charge accuses Floyd of then “willingly and feloniously swearing under oath” that he hadn’t been on probation when he ran for reelection for Ottawa County Sheriff this year.

He was arrested without incident and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

David Dean is replacing Floyd as the county’s sheriff come January.
