Crawford County Mental Health Center receives Sunderland Foundation Grant
Crawford County Mental Health Center (CCMHC) was recently awarded a $300,000 grant from the Sunderland Foundation in Overland Park to help fund the construction of a new Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) in Pittsburg.
Since 1945, The Sunderland Foundation has invested in the places and spaces where nonprofits do their work. Grants from the Sunderland Foundation help build the places where families in distress find help and healing, where young minds grow and thrive, and where communities come together for celebration and inspiration.
The focus of the Sunderland Foundation is on funding brick and mortar projects – including planning, design, construction, renovation, repairs and restoration – reflecting their unique heritage and providing a necessary source of funding for established nonprofits that need new or improved facilities. By supporting construction and special interest projects that allow nonprofits to fulfill their missions, the Sunderland Foundation fosters a stronger, safer and more vibrant future for the communities they serve.
The new ATC in Pittsburg, Kansas will feature 26 furnished bedrooms with a capacity of 52 beds to provide essential inpatient substance abuse treatment. The new ATC will also feature large meeting rooms to provide facilities for AA, NA, and other recovery meetings in the community, which are an integral part of the recovery process.
Mental illness and addiction does not simply affect individuals; it puts a large strain on family members and friends as well. The economy suffers as employers deal with absenteeism, tardiness, and loss of productivity. The community in general suffers from substance abuse related crimes: theft, fraud, and driving accidents. Expanding the services offered and increasing the number of clients served at the new ATC will have a huge beneficial impact on not just Crawford County but the entire Southeast Kansas Region.
Construction of the new ATC on the proposed site will incorporate and fully cement an integrated health care community. The 35 acre campus already includes the Crawford County Health Department, Women and Children’s Reintegration House, an Oxford House, Oakplace Apartments for adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) Crawford County Mental Health Center Adult Outpatient, Crisis Services, and Outpatient Substance Abuse Services, along with the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas.
