Former Pitt State basketball standout fatally shot in Wichita

A former Pittsburg State basketball player has been identified as the man who was shot and killed outside of a sports stadium complex in Wichita.

Police say that 31-year-old Marquell “Marky” Nolen was fatally shot Wednesday night where a youth football game was being played.

“It is believed that Nolen and the suspect are known to each other and are involved in an ongoing feud,” said Wichita police Sgt. Dan Harty, who adds that the shooting was not tied to any of the games

In his senior year at Pitt State in 2013, Nolen was the MIAA defensive player of the year. He had 55 steals that season, which is the seventh-best in school history.
