Chase last night ends in crash with driver in custody
The Joplin Police Department responded Thursday evening to a report of vehicle theft in progress around 4th and McConnell right around 6pm. The suspect was potentially driving under the influence. A 2017 Cadillac CTS was witnessed driving erratically, which caught the attention of the Joplin Police Department. After a short pursuit, the driver swerved at Walnut Avenue, went up into a yard, through a fence, and barely missed a house.
The 17-year-old driver fled on foot from there and was taken into custody a short distance from the crash location. No one was injured in the pursuit. The 17-year-old male will face multiple charges including Felony-DWI, in addition to pursuit, tampering, and property damage.
