Former Student Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sex Charges with Middle School Boys
A former student teacher from Lamar, a city in Barton County, pleaded guilty Thursday morning to sex charges involving underage boys, which led to a four year prison sentence. Emily Edson, 39 of Golden City, was charged with two counts of possessing child pornography, three counts of sexual misconduct involving a child by indecent exposure, and one count of enticement of a child. The charges against Edson were made in connections to incidents that date all the way back to Lamar Middle School in 2017.
Edson, who was a senior at Missouri Southern State University at the time, was arrested less than two months after she received the top award for middle school education from the School of Arts and Sciences. This award was given during the annual Academic Achievement Ceremony. From the probable cause statement taken from a student, Edson “had asked him to have sex with her several times, would speak ‘sexually’ to him and had sent him a nude photo”. This statement led to a search warrant on Edison’s phone, where photos of two naked underage boys having intercourse and simulating the act were found. The search was made in connection to another Lamar Police Investigation that will eventually lead to new charges.
