Jasper County Coach in trouble for leading team prayer.
A Jasper County administrator is being accused of leading team prayers, which violates the U.S. Constitution. Joey Ballard, the head coach of the Jasper High School football team, was accused recently of regularly leading team prayers. The Freedom From Religion Foundation argued in a letter to the district that Ballard’s action violate the U.S. constitution. This Wisconsin-based nonprofit advocates separation of church and state.
A parent of one of the players alerted the foundation, in the Jasper case. The group also argued that Missouri football coaches should cease organized prayer, and that it’s illegal for Jasper Scholl District Coaching staff to lead teams in prayer. Ballard has been with the district for two years and is aware of the claims.
