One driver injured in Highway 96 crash this morning
A morning crash between a semi-tractor and trailer and a crossover SUV on Highway 96 near County Road 100, two miles east of Carthage, has sent one person to the hospital.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman says a westbound 2021 Acura RDX driven by 30-year-old Sarah E. Goodson of Carthage crossed the center line and entered the path of an eastbound truck, resulting in a head-on crash.
The SUV then ran off the north side of the road and overturned. The semi came to rest in a shallow ditch.
Goodson suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
The driver of the 2005 Peterbilt semi, 58-year-old Tracy D. Moss of Anderson, was not injured.
Fuel leaked from the semi, which had to be cleared from the highway. Its front wheels were nearly knocked off, which made removal difficult.
