Kansas woman gets life in prison for decapitation of ex-boyfriend’s mother.
Rachael Hilyard will be spending many years in prison for the crime of decapitating her ex-boyfriend’s mother with a pair of kitchen knives. The 38-year-old, from Wichita, Kansas, was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the 2017 death of 63-year-old Micki Davis. Hilyard apologized at a hearing that several of Davis’ family members attended or watched through a Zoom call.
Authorities previously stated Davis was originally attacked after going to Hilyard’s home to pick up some of her son’s property on April 9, 2017. Prosecutors said that Hilyard had planned the killing. Hilyard claimed that Davis fell during a struggle over a painting. Hilyard, who presumed Davis was dead afterwards, grabbed a pair of knives and decapitated Davis’s head because she wanted to release her soul from her body. A jury convicted Hilyard in February. She’ll be eligible for parole after serving 50 years in prison.
