16 year old Carthage resident sings racist version of Alabama’s Song of the South.
Bernie’s Bar and Grill, of Avilla, came under some controversy this weekend after a Facebook video surfaced of a intoxicated 16 year old that drunkenly sang a racist version of Alabama’s Song of the South. Rick Walker, owner of the bar, quickly addressed the issue making several statements involving the 16-year-old Carthage high school student. This was done after another Carthage resident made a separate video criticizing on the racist behavior. Amongst the plans to address the teenagers actions, the bar intends close off access to minors after 9pm. The staff of Bernie’s Bar and Grill will also be taking classes on how to spot fake id’s as well. Walker took other action in response to commenters in addition to the previously mentioned, which involved taking down a confederate flag that was previously hanging up in the bar.
