Child Abuse in Carthage

“…she would not go to sleep after being fed a bottle of formula” so he ” .. grabbed and shook her hard and her head was moving around ” Those are the words told to detectives by 20-year-old Hunter Kelley explaining an incident in Carthage over the weekend.

Emergency crews responded to a call of an unresponsive infant around 2am Saturday morning. CPR was administered. The unidentified baby was rushed to a local hospital.

During an investigation by Carthage PD detectives, Kelley said he didn’t throw or hit the baby, just shook the baby violently. Plus Kelley admitted that this isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred saying it also happened less than a week earlier.

Hunter Kelly is in the Jasper County Jail on a half-million dollar bond. The Baby remains in a Springfield hospital.
