Jasper County Jail addition to add 100 beds, kitchen and more

Ground was broken earlier this week in Carthage for an addition to the Jasper County jail.

“This addition is going to add on about 100 beds, plus a new kitchen, plus programming space,” said Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser.

He says the project will address problems that have existed for a number of years.

The addition is being paid for by a 1/4 cent sales tax approved by voters in 2019.

Kaiser says the addition will be located on the east side of the current jail in Carthage.

Work should be complete in early 2022.
