Child’s body found in Carthage yard, investigation underway
A grisly scene greeted Carthage Police Department officers just after 4 p.m. Saturday when they responded to a report of a deceased young child or infant in the yard of a house at 1102 Walnut.
Police say the body was found in a state of decay. Police could not determine how the body had been in the yard.
Police tell NewsTalk KZRG the body appeared to have been buried but had become exposed again, which led a concerned citizen to contact authorities.
Neighbors and the people who live in the house are being interviewed by Carthage Police officers.
Juvenile officers from Jasper County are taking part in the interviewing of children.
The body will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
This is a developing story and details will be added as they are received.
