Saturday morning accident on Interstate-44 kills one, injures two

Captain William Davis of the Joplin Police Department reports a fatality accident took place on I-44 Saturday morning. Following is a news release from the JPD:

“On August 22nd, 2020 at 07:08 am,  the Joplin Police Department responded to the westbound 2.8
mile marker on I-44 for a report of crash involving a pickup truck and a semi tractor trailer.

“The initial investigation is showing a westbound semi tractor trailer collided with a westbound pickup
truck at this location.

“The driver of the pickup and and a child passenger were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. An adult passenger in the pickup was found deceased at the scene of the crash.

“The driver of the semi tractor trailer was not injured.

“The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notifications.

“The Joplin Police Department’s Major Crash Team is on scene and actively working the crash investigation.

“Further details will be released once they become available.”
