Missouri substitute teacher shortage
The Missouri Board of Education could vote Tuesday on a proposal that aims to hire more K12 substitute teachers during the COVID-19 time.
Tyler Madsen with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says the state hopes to reduce the training requirements for candidates to get licensed.
“Right now, it’s 60 credit hours but it would basically allow a 20 hour online training program to try to help fill what is anticipated to be a substitute shortage for the coming year,” says Madsen.
The training cost be about $100-$200 per candidate, plus another $50 for the license.
