Missouri Crime bill in committee today
Juvenile certification legislation will be heard by a Missouri House committee this afternoon in Jefferson City.
The House Special Committee on Criminal Justice plans a 2 pm hearing on legislation from O’Fallon GOP State Representative Nick Schroer, which would allow Missouri courts to certify some juveniles ages 14-18 as adults for violent weapons offenses.
Governor Mike Parson has called for this provision, saying it’s aimed at violent crime such as murder and rape. But St. Louis Democratic State Representative Rasheen Aldridge and other critics say the measure would lock up children and put them in prison with violent offenders and murderers.
Aldridge and others protested in downtown Jefferson City last week.
