Man in custody following Miami shooting, chase

One man is in custody following a shooting in Miami, Okla. Saturday afternoon. NewsTalk KZRG received the following news release from Chief Thomas Anderson of the Miami Police Department:

“Officers were dispatched at approximately 1335 [1:35 p.m.] Saturday afternoon to 114 J Street NW in reference to gun shots. Upon arrival a female subject was found in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. 

“The male subject had left the scene in a white Audi. The vehicle was found in Ottawa County and a pursuit was initiated.  The suspect fled and was taken into custody on Highway 125 south of Fairland. Officers  from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Fairland Police, Miami Police, Ottawa County and the Wyandotte Nation all assisted in the pursuit. 

“The suspect was then identified as Austin Wesley Tanner, 23 years old from Hominy, who just recently moved to Miami.  

“The female victim was flown to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. No condition report is available. Her identity has not been released.  

“Officers first received a verbal domestic call at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the same location and there were no signs of a physical confrontation.  The scene was de-escalated at that time and the cause of the shooting is still being investigated.  At the request of the District Attorneys Office OSBI was called to further the investigation.”
