Charges in Carthage murder

The Jasper County prosecutor has filed first-degree murder charges against Lane Stephens in the fatal shooting of Don Pierce.

After an argument with his estranged wife, Lane Stephens followed Toni Stephens into a Carthage hotel room and fatally shot Pierce.

Stephens then fled the area, and carjacked two separate vehicles before being arrested in Lamar

Stephens is also charged with first-degree domestic assault for shooting and wounding Toni Stephens, two counts of armed criminal action, and robbery.

Stephens is being held without bond.
