2 pedestrians fatally hit by separate autos in Springfield

(AP) Police say two pedestrians were fatally hit by separate vehicles at the same spot around the same time in Springfield. Police say the incidents happened early Tuesday morning on the Chestnut Expressway, killing a 48-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman. Investigators determined the man was hit first shortly after 4 a.m. by a white pickup truck, which did not stop. Police say the woman then ran into the road to help the man, and both were hit by a car which dragged the victims a short distance. Police say that driver stopped and has cooperated with the investigation. Police are still searching for the suspected pickup and driver first involved in the crash.
