Structural collapse training course slated for firefighters
The Joplin Fire Department will hold a Structural Collapse Training Course on Wednesday, June 17.
It will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Facility Training Grounds located at5102 Suede Lane.
Training Chief Mark Cannon will be on site to meet with news media and explain the exercise and various tactics being used during the training.
Simulated situations will be established for participants to navigate and use the different techniques taught during the exercise.
Joplin firefighters will be taking the course, along with personnel from agencies in the surrounding area. Furgerson secured a Regional Homeland Security Committee grant to offer this important training course for the departments in this area.
The grant is administered by the Office of Homeland Security.
