Trump reschedules Tulsa rally to avoid conflict
President Donald Trump is rescheduling his first campaign rally in months to avoid a conflict with the Juneteenth observance of the end of slavery in the United States.
Trump had scheduled his first rally since March for June 19 in Tulsa. However, many black leaders said the day was unsuitable, especially in a city that in1921 was the site of a major attack of blacks by whites fueled by racial hatred.
Trump tweeted late Friday, “Many of my African American friends and supporters have reached out to suggest that we consider changing the date out of respect for this Holiday.”
He said he is moving the rally to June 20 “to honor their requests.”
Trump’s rallies have not been held since March 2 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has taken the lives of more than 110,000 Americans.
