Special caution advised for those in high risk groups
Even though most states have “re-opened” from pandemic shutdowns, health care experts say social distancing and wearing masks are still good ideas to avoid catching COVID-19.
Susan Pittman, RD, LD, CDE, Diabetes Program Coordinator at Freeman Health System, says this is especially true for people in “high risk groups” like diabetics.
“You wouldn’t be at a higher risk to get the virus,” she says, ” but if you do get the virus, you would be a higher risk of it becoming more severe.”
The she says diabetics are also more likely to have more severe cases of the flu and pneumonia.
