Missouri House Gives Final Approval to PDMP Legislation
Legislation creating a Missouri prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) is one step away from reaching the governor’s desk, after the House voted 94-59 to give it final approval. During Wednesday’s heated floor debate, Osceola GOP State Representative Warren Love blasted some of his colleagues, for dragging their feet saying, “… we’re one of the only ones that don’t have PDMP … we don’t have Wayfair internet … folks, what’s wrong with us?”
Love voted for PDMP, which is an electronic database that collects data on controlled substance prescriptions within a state.
On the other side, Ash Grove GOP State Representative Mike Moon voted against PDMP, warning about potential data breaches involving your prescription information. ” … individuals looking for specific information on a particular person, and how could that be used to harm someone. Very possible” Said Moon.
And while the vote was bipartisan, the debate exposed tension inside the House GOP caucus, when O’Fallon Republican State Representative Nick Schroer publicly said that a deal was made with the Senate to kill the fentanyl and carjacking bills, to pass PDMP.
The Bill is now headed to the Missouri State Senate. As for the Senate, President Pro Tem Dave Schatz says he expects PDMP to be on the Senate floor today (Thursday), adding that he is still optimistic.
If the Senate approves the bill by 6 pm tomorrow, it will go to the governor’s desk.
