A bomb in abandoned car

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate an abandoned vehicle at the Fountain Road Park Village mobile home park, around 2 yesterday afternoon.

Once they arrived at the Joplin Trailer Park they noticed a suspicious device inside the car. Deputies evacuated the area and called in the assistance of the Springfield Fire Department Bomb Squad.

The Bomb Squad examined the device and determined it to be some sort of explosive and carefully removed the car to safe area. Once the car was in a safer location, the bomb squad detonated the device.

An investigation reveled the white SUV was stolen out of Wichita. The Jasper County Sheriff’s office along with the help of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is continuing to investigate.
