Drop in abuse calls sends mixed messages

There’s been a 50 percent drop in calls to the Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect hotline over the last month.

A similar trend has been reported in other states.

Experts say that may be because kids aren’t coming into contact with mandated reporters such as teachers, care providers and others in their support system.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson calls the drop in calls “truly alarming.”
