Bicyclist Killed While Riding On I-49
A bicyclist from Neosho was killed when he was hit by a car on the interstate Sunday night.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. John Lueckenhoff exclusively tells News Talk KZRG 51-year-old Michael Linton was riding northbound on I-49 on his bicycle in the middle of the left lane around 9:30 p.m when he was hit from behind by another northbound driver, 25-year-old Alex Foster of Springfield.
According to the troopers at the scene, Linton did not have any reflective material on the back of his bike, nor was he wearing a helmet.
Linton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Lueckenhoff says even though there is a posted minimum speed limit of 40 mph, that law only applies to motor vehicles. He says it is lawful to ride a bicycle on the interstate, but you have to move all the way to the right, or onto the shoulder.
