Neosho votes against stay at home order

The city of Neosho has voted down a “stay-at-home” order for its residents due to the coronavirus pandemic. Council members say they will address the situation at a later date.

Mayor Doubek says he is sad where the nation and the community is at medically. Multiple council members noted that they had been threatened and called names because of their consideration regarding the order.

Council members say they will also watch and wait for Governor Mike Parson’s orders and Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw’s directives regarding a stay at home order, if one is issued.

The state of Missouri confirming over 1,000 cases of the virus, with 13 deaths. The Department of Social Services says Newton County is reporting 4 cases of COVID-19.

Cities such as Springfield, Kansas City and St. Louis have previously issued such orders as Missouri Governor Mike Parson has yet to issue a statewide order. He says that we are “60 to 90 days away from getting through this virus, and that’s a best-case scenario”.
