Some Joplin business owners resist drive for lockdown
A petition drive is underway by one group of citizens asking Mayor Gary Shaw to push for a lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
But not all Joplin business owners agree.
Duane Hukill of Joplin Floor Design says once a business closes, anything can happen.
“Once a business shuts down, there are a lot of businesses out there that are month-to-month and, if they lose a month of income, they won’t be open for their employees to come back to,” Hukill says.
Hukill says he feels social distancing to avoid the virus is a matter of”personal responsibility.”
