Downtown Joplin traffic accident removes light pole

Joplin emergency crews were dispatched to downtown Joplin at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday after an SUV crashed into a light pole near 9th and Main Streets, in front of The Pub tavern.

A spokesman for the Joplin Police Department says the accident occurred after the driver had a sudden medical emergency. The driver was transported to a Joplin hospital by ambulance.

The police spokesman says none of the passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries as a result of the crash.

The light pole was removed from its mooring, with the top portion coming to rest on a wire.

Crews from Liberty Utilities were also at the scene, to extract the light pole from the front of the car
