2019 was a busy year for the Joplin Police department
The Joplin police department released their 2019 Annual Report today. The report gives us a breakdown of every call, every report and every incident the men and women of the Joplin Police had to take care of for the year as well as a list of departments and services.
2019 was a very busy year for the 163 total employees of the Joplin police department. Large increases in police calls for service, reports taken, self-initiated activity, and traffic stops.
A 24% increase in unlawful use of a weapon in Joplin is a sign of the daily dangers our officers encounter. Also on the rise; dui/dwi up 18%, robbery up 17% and theft from vehicle crime up 14%.
On the downward trend homicide was down by a third, and arson was down by over 20%
However, total crime for the City was up by 8%.
In total, there were almost 86-thousand calls for service and 11-thousand reports taken. Plus, 14 thousand traffic stops and over 19-thousand traffic crashes resulting in 7 deaths.
