MO State Rep. Proposes Arming Staff In Every School Building
Concealed weapons in the classroom. If a new proposal from a Missouri State Representative comes to fruition, every school building in the state would be required to have an armed staff member, or an armed officer.
In what he’s calling the “Keep Our Schools Safe Act,” Representative Nick Schroer wants each of Missouri’s over 500 school districts to hire, or train, someone to carry a concealed weapon in each of the state’s nearly 2,400 school buildings for safety reasons.
In a recent budget committee hearing while talking about boosting mental health services in schools, Representative Deb Lavender, a Democrat from the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood, said she thinks there’s too much emphasis on policing schools and not enough caring for students.
No word yet on what this plan would cost the tax payers.
A public hearing over the bill will be held on Tuesday at the Capitol.
