Community garden planned for Carthage’s Griggs Park
Growing healthy things to eat in the city.
Carthage’s Griggs Park soon will include a community garden.
H.E.R.E. (Healthy Eating, Regular Exercise) 4 Carthage is the result of an effort funded by grants from the Carthage Community Foundation, Steadley Trust and McCune Brooks Hospital Trust.
Under the plan, food grown in a dozen 4 by 8 raised beds will be tended by local individuals and groups.
The produce will go to local food banks.
A five-member Carthage Community Gardens Committee to set rules and make the effort a reality. .
The gardens will be turned over to the city after the first year.
