Drunk Driver Crashes Through Fence At Joplin Police Department

There was no get away for an alleged highly intoxicated driver that smashed through the back fence of the Joplin Police Department late Wednesday night.

Capt. Nick Jimenez tells KZRG what happened.

“At approximately 10:20 last night, another city employee observed what they believed to be a possibly intoxicated driver driving on 2nd Street. He notified police and followed the vehicle, which hit the gate and an electrical pole on the north side of the police department. At that time the male attempted to leave, striking the city vehicle. Officers responded and took the suspect into custody.”

The City Works employee was not injured, but the truck is damaged. The suspect’s name has not been released. He is facing assault and DWI charges. He was arrested without incident.
