Public Meeting On Monday To INCREASE Your Electric Rates By $96 A Year

Liberty-Empire has asked the Public Service Commission to raise your electrical rates by nearly $100 a year.

They filed the rate case in August, but the PSC is holding a public input meeting on Monday at Missouri Southern’s Plaster Hall at 6 o’clock.

For a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month, the proposed increase would cost you an extra $7.85 a month. That’s an increase of 5.8%. Over the course of a year, that’s $96.24. The rate increase would increase Liberty’s annual revenue by $26.5 million. The company says $74,946 is attributable to Liberty-Empire updating energy costs used to determine its customers’ billed Fual Adjustment Clause charges.
If approved, the new rates will go into effect this summer.

The Commission has scheduled question and answer sessions followed by local public hearings, where the public is invited to testify, and/or provide documents to the PSC for it to consider in the electric rate case.

The Q & A session happens first where Liberty officials will be present to help answer questions, but if you want your opinion to truly count you have to go on record. That means you’ll have register your name and address with the Public Service Commission when you arrive this evening, before addressing the PSC with your testimony in the meeting that follows the Q & A.

Missouri’s Public Service Commission has NEVER turned down a rate case in it’s 107 year history.
