Sears in Joplin closing 2 weeks early

The original date was February 16th, now it’s this Sunday, February 2nd. That’s when Sears at Joplin’s Northpark Mall will close their doors forever- the end of an era.

The store is virtually empty with just a few shelves stocked with some scattered merchandise after 40 years in Joplin. Among the sale signs that read 50, 60 or even 75 percent off, is the sign that reads “all sales are final”.

Sears is closing early due to a lack of inventory. The majority of it was sold to a liquidator. They’ll lock the doors at noon on Sunday.

The few remaining employees tell Newstalk KZRG they’re saddened by news, especially since they will be out of two weeks of pay.
