Stolen car hits a school bus

It all started when Joplin Police attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle and ended with a major accident.

Just before dawn this morning Joplin Police attempted a stop of a stolen van. The van took off south on Schiffendecker at a high-rate of speed. Police called of the pursuit because of dangerous road conditions as snow started to fall in the area and visibility became limited.

As officers came up the hill towards I-44 several miles later they found an accident. The Van had lost control and hit a Joplin School bus.

The Two children on the bus and the bus driver were not injured, however the condition of the driver of the stolen van remains unknown, because the driver somehow was able to escape the accident and the area.

The road remained closed for several hours during the morning commute as road crews cleaned the scene and Joplin Police attempted to search for the felon.
