Baxter Springs PD Turns Over 911 Dispatching To Cherokee County
They may have been the last in Cherokee County to team up with the county’s 911 dispatch center, but the Baxter Springs Police Department has now made the switch in an effort to provide citizens with better service at a lower cost to tax payers. If you need to get a hold of Chief Russ Harper, or one of their officers for a non-emergency, you can still give them a call at the department during normal business hours; (620) 856-2112.
Post from the Baxter Springs Police Department’s Facebook page:
The Baxter Springs Police Department has contracted to have all dispatch services controlled by the Cherokee County Sheriff. Baxter was the last community to join forces. This move is cost effective but mainly it allows for our officers and citizens to be served by dispatchers that are highly trained professionals. Since we no longer dispatch officers, we will have a office administrator available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. The Chief, Detectives and Patrol Officers are available during these times for walk in reports. After 4:00 pm, simply call 620-856-2112 and the CKSO will dispatch us to your location or we can meet at the station. The Judicial Assistant is available during the same hours M-F, 8am to 4pm or call 620-856-3825.
To call the Police Admin to get copies of reports etc, the number is 620-856-2146. It will take some time to adjust but remember 911 is always the emergency number for Police, Fire or Ambulance. This move was made to bring our City into compliance with every other City in Cherokee County and we expect this to be beneficial to all involved.
