The 2020 St. Louis Cardinal Caravan rolled into Joplin on Saturday, Jan. 18th, bringing with it both current players and Cardinal alumni whose names are a part Redbird history.
Players on the trip included Jordan Hicks, Lane Thomas, Junior Fernandez, Tom Pagnozzi and Al Hrabosky.
The Cardinal group appeared before a large crowd of fans and media at Missouri Southern State University’s Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium. The event was emceed by the always loquacious Ricky Horton (pictured above left, waving to fans).
The 2019 St. Louis Cardinals season was the 138th for the team. On Sept. 20, last season the Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to clinch their first playoff berth since 2015. Just over a week later, the Redbirds clinched the National League Central for the first time since 2015, and defeated the Atlanta Braves in the Division Series on Oct. 9.
They played the Washington Nationals in the NLCS, but were swept in four games.
Redbird players say they’re looking forward to the 2020 season, hoping to go all the way to the playoffs and to the World Series.
