Blunt Says Pelosi Is Playing Politics
U.S House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is withholding the articles of impeachment from the Senate.
The House voted to impeach President Trump for “abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress” related to his dealings with Ukraine after six hours of heated debate Wednesday, making Trump the third American president ever to be impeached.
Legal experts say according to the constitution, the Senate is obligated to hold a trial once the House has voted to impeach. Senator Roy Blunt says Pelosi is just playing games.
“There’s no way the Speaker has the authority to hold onto the impeachment resolution. If she wants to hold onto it until the Congress reconvenes in January, that would not be unprecedented , but the idea that a speaker can decide not to send the work that the House has done to the Senate is just pure, one hundred percent, unadulterated politics.”
