Blunt talks President Trump’s impeachment

President Trump was officially impeached by the House of Representatives Wednesday. It will move to the US Senate once Speaker Nancy Pelosi sends those articles of impeachment over. Missouri US Senator Roy Blunt joined the KZRG Morning Newswatch and gave us his view. Listen to it or read some of the key points below:

Blunt: “I think this is just another example of the pure politics that both democrats on both sides of the building are playing on this issue. There was never any likelihood, with the way they started this impeachment effort, that it would possibly result in removing the president from office.”

“I think that they’re going to find out that this will backfire on them, that the American people are going to see, and have already seen, that this is not going to result in removing the president and be really offended that all the time the Congress should have taken doing the people’s business was spent on this purely partisan impeachment effort.”

“The fact that not a single Republican in the House was persuaded that this made sense, and that three Democrats voted with Republicans, the bi-partisan vote was not to impeach.”

“The idea that a speaker can decide not to send the work that the House has done, whether you and I agree with it or not, to the Senate is just pure, 100%, unadulterated politics.”
