Barry County Woman Killed On Icy Road

Bad weather and icy road conditions are to blame for a fatal accident in Barry County Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 3 p.m, 43-year-old Joe DeBoer of Wheaton was eastbound on Highway C, near Purdy, when he lost control and slid off of the road, hitting 59-year-old Bonnie Hawser from Monett.

Hawser was standing near a pick-up that was involved in an earlier weather related crash.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Highway Patrol reminds you to please, never wait outside of your vehicle following an accident. If you slide off the road, you are always safer inside your vehicle, which is built to withstand the impact of a crash, because the chances are- if you slid off the road, another driver likely will, too.
