Robocalls Unite Washington
Robocalls have done the impossible- they’ve united a very divided Washington.
The reason is pretty simple, people despise getting these annoying calls. Americans are tormented with nearly 5 billion unwanted automated phone calls every single month.
The House overwhelmingly voted in favor of a law Wednesday that would hang-up on Robocallers. The legislation now moves to the Senate where it’s expected to pass, and then be signed by President Trump before Christmas.
The Pallone-Thune TRACED Act (which stands for Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence) takes care of robocalls in a number of ways. This legislation would require cell phone-service providers to implement a better caller-ID program to verify where the phone calls are coming from, allow you to block them, and also bans those companies from charging you for utilizing those features.
Under the bill, the FCC and law enforcement would have more authority in going after those making robocalls; ramping up penalties, and the ability to prosecute repeat offenders.
