No Prison Time In Home Invasion Case
No jail time will be served by a man that broke into a home in Joplin and fired a gun during an attempted home invasion because he was “too drunk to remember what happened”.
On Monday, Jasper County Judge David Mouton sentenced 23-year-old Bradley Powell to a seven year suspended sentence and five years of probation.
You’ll remember KZRG told you about Powell kicking in the door of a home in the 1800 block of Indiana in May. While wearing a mask, he pointed and shot a gun at the two men inside, and demanded cash. Powell was arrested by Joplin Police less than 15 minutes later inside a car near his house in 2300 block of S. Wall Ave because the men recognized his voice.
Powell pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary charges in September. His attorney Joseph Collier convinced the judge that the time served since his arrest was punishment enough considering his prior clean criminal record. Powell was facing 15 years in prison.
